HouseWorks Announces Acquisition of Amedisys Personal Care Division

house works

Once housed, MIST provides comprehensive, supportive services to help new tenants sustain their housing. In addition, MIST provides housing retention and eviction prevention services to at-risk households. Opened in 2011, Young Burlington is the first WORKS development with supportive services for a special needs population of transitional aged 18 to 24 year old youth.

Events

By establishing this network partnership, Amedisys retains and expands access to personal care services to support its patients in the current and growing footprints served by HouseWorks and eCaring. We forge partnerships with property developers to be the on-site provider of supportive services to tenants who were formerly experiencing chronic homelessness. We have partnered with WORKS (Women Organizing Resources Knowledge and Services), Brilliant Corners, RxLA, DMH (Department of Mental Health), DHS (Department of Health Services), ODR (Office of Diversion and Re-Entry), Housing for Health (HFH), Hollywood Community Housing, and more. Currently, Housing Works partners with nine housing sites where we are the lead provider for resident services for over 700 participants.

Housing Works is a healing community of people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Our mission is to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses that sustain our efforts. Each generation of American women seemingly needed to be reminded—through the law, economic constraints, and even now in social media—of the “naturalness” of her submissive role. These constant reminders, however, suggest equally constant remonstrations from women, albeit with mixed results. We designed [much of] the furniture in-house and then translated them across the Atlantic with our trusted US-based manufacturers. This helped to keep a consistency of style across coasts from the United Kingdom to the United States and helps our members feel comfortable and at home wherever they might be when they visit.

If you don’t see your city listed in our service areas, call us.

We recognize that simply moving homeless people into physical housing does not, in itself, address the essential roots of homelessness. A major part of this effort is to partner with others with similar aspirations – housing providers, healthcare providers, public and private agencies. Housing Works serves as a model of how to create community and work to improve the lives of people struggling in a complex society.

Our nine single site buildings are Young Burlington (specifically housing transitional aged youth), Teague Terrace, T. Bailey Manor, Palo Verde, 88th and Vermont, Florence Mills, Gramercy, Stanford, and Bungalow Gardens (specifically housing formerly incarcerated individuals). In many ways, they are exploited as pawns of the right, laundering extremist views and transforming them into ostensibly more palatable packaging. This was perhaps the intent behind Senator Katie Britt’s ill-received response to President Biden’s State of the Union address in early March; Senator Tommy Tuberville indicated as much. Yet her performance of womanhood—her breathy vocalization dubbed “fundie baby voice” by critics—appeared as empty as her kitchen and did nothing to soften the blow of her party’s apocalyptic interpretation of current events. But their glorification of these views obscures the reality of the consequences of women’s submission and subordination to men, whether it is a “choice” or not. This also helped provide an interesting backdrop for our carefully selected lighting and a contrast to some of the richer fabric textures and tones in the upholstery below.

We listen to your needs and make sure you’re comfortable with your decisions today — and into the future. Through our acclaimed Thrift Shops, Online Shop and Bookstore Cafe we are able to provide crucial funding in support of our mission. Our businesses not only provide socially conscious shops in our neighborhoods but jobs for clients who complete our job training program.

The artsy environment and curated space allows for people to admire views and work with inspiration. Our mission is to create housing and service options that model, with respect and dignity, sustainable, environmentally sensitive, affordable communities for people of limited resources. Through our outreach and housing navigation services, Special Projects works with local medical providers throughout Los Angeles to connect with people experiencing homelessness who frequent hospitals in order to match them with housing. Special Projects is also participating in Cal AIM efforts, which is in collaboration with the following health providers- Kaiser Permanente, LA Care, Anthem Blue Cross, and Health Net. We included all the usual components of our Works spaces in London and New York but wanted to create a Californian aesthetic to connect to the new location.

MIST stays with the household, assisting with re-location, housing search and application, and providing supportive services at the new site. We do whatever it takes, for as long as it takes to help tenants retain their home and thrive. Located in South Los Angeles, Florence Apartments was completed in the spring of 2021. Florence Apartments has been designed and built to meet stringent environmental and energy efficiency standards and is striving for LEED Gold certification. The development includes many amenities, including a community room, fitness center and a Workforce Development Center.

In the 19th century, for example, women’s organizations sought to change the law at the state level to allow married women to own property in certain circumstances, finding some success. But it was not until the 1970s that married women had the right to obtain credit cards separate from their husbands. Some colonies, and later states, permitted divorce under certain circumstances (and the number of states providing for access to marital separation would expand over time), though relatively few women availed themselves of this legal mechanism. Given the other stringencies of coverture, life as a single woman and a single mother likely proved a greater trial for many. Social expectations for wives likewise filled the pages of novels like The Coquette (1797) and Pamela (1740) which extolled the virtues of white femininity.

Supportive services for these special needs households are provided by Eastern Los Angeles Regional Center (ELARC), Housing WORKS, and Women Organizing Resources Knowledge and Services (W.O.R.K.S.). 88th & Vermont is a newly constructed mixed use development located in South Los Angeles. Completed in 2019, the development includes studio, 1, 2, and 3-bedroom units, and 9,000 square feet of commercial space, home of the Community Build Youth and Community Center. Approximately 75% of the residential units are set aside for formerly unhoused individuals and families earning up to 30% of area median income; the remaining units house individuals and families earning up to 40% of area median income.

The colors and patterns we selected, along with the finishes and artwork, help create a perfect sister space for our West Hollywood club. With locations on nearly every continent, there’s no hotter international membership club right now than the Soho House. Founded in 1995, the brand has now expanded to include other venue types including a chic coworking and collaborative space called Soho Works, which was founded in London. Open to both members and non-members, the Los Angeles location was designed by Harriet Liley who is the lead designer for both Soho Works and Soho House.

The 21 newly constructed one bedroom apartments house young people earning no more than 25% of Area Median Income. The property features a community room, a lounge, a computer lab and a courtyard with community gardens and barbeques. The property is located just west of downtown Los Angeles and is convenient to both community shopping and public transportation. Opened in September 2015, Teague Terrace is the second WORKS development targeted to individuals with special needs.

Married women lived under the legal doctrine of coverture, in which their individual, legal identities were subsumed under those of their husbands. The oft-cited legal commentator, Sir William Blackstone—foreshadowing the refrain of tradwives today—asserted that wives’ submission to their husbands was “for her protection and benefit,” making her “a favourite” under the law. Membership is offered month to month and provides access to all locations, which caters to the bi-coastal business traveler for ease and accessibility.

Resources for Families

These popular books were entertaining for readers, much like contemporary tradwives’ social media posts, but also didactic in their demonstrations of what would become of “fallen” women who had chosen their partners poorly. For instance, Eliza Wharton, The Coquette’s protagonist, died giving birth to a stillborn, illegitimate child after eschewing a pious suitor in favor of an attractive cad. Tradwives have not escaped the notice of journalists and social commentators who track their popular rise on various social media platforms. Some analyses of the tradwife trend reference the 1950s, while other commentators focus on influencers like Hannah Neeleman of Ballerina Farm fame, who perform the role of 19th-century homesteaders (despite Neeleman’s occlusion of her husband’s inherited wealth). But the ideology behind the fad has much deeper—and more insidious—roots in American history.

The California State License Board recommends getting at least three written bids before hiring a contractor. Do not automatically accept the lowest bid - an abnormally low bid may indicate the contractor made a mistake and is not including the same work quoted by their competitors.

Due to the rich service offering, our housing retention rate for three years is 98%; our program serves 450 individuals. In 2011, Housing Works received Corporation for Supportive Housing's first Quality in Operations Management & Service Delivery Award. Applicants are required to pass a written board exam and prove at least four years of prior, relevant work experience. In addition, the CSLB requires all license holders to maintain at least $2,500 in operating capital and provides you with a range of other consumer protections. In California, any remodeling or construction project that exceeds $500 (labor and materials), requires a contractor to have an active license with the California Contractor State License Board (CSLB). If you are thinking of hiring HOUSEWORKS, we recommend double-checking their license status with the license board and using our bidding system to get competitive quotes. Utilizing tenant-based vouchers and scattered site units, prospective tenants can explore options for where they can live, and thrive.A unique aspect of Housing Works' MIST model is our recognition that some tenants are not going to thrive in the unit they are presently renting. Our commitment is to help households sustain permanent housing, and not return to homelessness.

Interior Designer Harriet Liley Talks Designing Soho House’s Soho Works In Los Angeles

This square foot space features open workspaces, private offices, conference rooms, and a gorgeously designed bar, featuring a daily breakfast spread for members as well as a full-service coffee and espresso station. With floor-to-ceiling windows and majestic views, it's an ideal spot to arrange a meeting or just to be productive among peers, geared toward those working in creative industries. The BuildZoom score is based on a number of factors including the contractor's license status, insurance status, verified work history, standing with local consumer interest groups, verified reviews from other BuildZoom users and self-reported feedback from the contractor. Although this is the smallest Soho house amongst all Soho locations, it gives different feels from the other houses in LA. You will find members at this location on a getaway from busy city life and enjoying beautiful, intimate beach views. This house is next door to Nobu Malibu making it the perfect place for great food, warm vibes and maybe even a Hadid or two.

We work with the most vulnerable people who are experiencing homelessness, in many cases housing folks who have lived on the streets for decades. WORKS partners with Amcal Multi-Housing Inc., to create affordable and supportive housing developments with enriched services that are responsive to community needs. This house is IMPRESSIVE, with its amazing interior design, 20 floors and 360 views of Los Angeles. This location has has many members, amazing food options, lounge/meeting areas and event space.

Eighteenth- and 19th-century women did not possess rights as full citizens in the United States. Historically, citizenship rights have been linked to gender, wherein the obligations and thus the benefits of citizenship depended on sex. Tradwives who claim that women are “naturally” suited for submission to male authority and thus deserving of “protection” from men are implicitly condoning women’s second-class citizenship. In reality, coverture erased wives’ independent legal identities under the guise of protection and care from husbands. This legal framework dictated that a married woman owned no property in her own name; any wages she earned belonged to her husband.

Keeping the mechanical exposed helped provide a feel of a higher ceiling, a feeling of more space throughout, and we liked the industrial look, which followed the style of some of our first Works spaces in London. Aesthetically, our design process for Works locations follows much the same process as our House locations. Obviously, we have a different set of requirements, such as communal kitchens and member offices, which our Houses do not have, but in terms of how we get to the final design of the space, it is very much the same idea. I recently spoke with Liley about designing this location, balancing interior design and productivity, as well as creating an aesthetic that represents the Soho brand as a whole in two very different venues. The multi-level West Hollywood location opened in 2020 at the notable 9000 Sunset building, overlooking the Sunset Strip and Hollywood Hills. California contractors are required to submit their fingerprints to the board, which are then checked against criminal records held by the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) prior to obtaining a valid contracting license.

As we build relationships, one person at a time, one organization at a time, our goal is to participate in systemic change that actively addresses barriers and boundaries that limit people and ignore disabilities. Located in the Glassell Park community of Los Angeles, T. Bailey Manor opened in August 2017 as a mixed use development, including 46 newly constructed apartments and 2 commercial spaces in a renovated existing building. The property serves households with special needs, including formerly homeless veterans, other special needs individuals and families and persons with developmental disabilities. The property serves formerly unhoused individuals including veterans and persons with developmental disabilities and other special needs. To support the needs and aspirations of residents, the development features a community room, meeting rooms, a computer room, and a laundry room. Outdoor areas offer an open courtyard with edible landscaping; along the side and rear yards, colorful vines and landscaped areas screen and shade the building while providing a calming and attractive space.

Hearing on "Examining the Change Healthcare Cyberattack"

house committee on energy and commerce

As a result of the outage, critical services affecting patient care—including billing services, claims transmittals, and eligibility verifications—became inoperable. Though UnitedHealth first notified users that it expected the disruption to “last at least through the day,” several of the company’s products have now been inoperable for more than a month. “Change Healthcare is a central player in the country’s health care system, which has been upended by the recent breach,” t he bipartisan Committee leaders wrote to Mr. Witty. “We are interested in your efforts to secure Change Healthcare’s systems since it was acquired by your company and the efforts you are taking to restore system functionality and support patients and providers affected by the attack.” Change Healthcare’s platforms touch an estimated one in three U.S. patient records. Its systems process roughly 15 billion transactions annually, and are linked to approximately 900,000 physicians, 118,000 dentists, 33,000 pharmacies, and 5,500 hospitals nationwide.

These constituents will receive a letter from the Clerk requesting whether the staff should continue assistance or not. Constituents who do not have pending cases but require assistance in matters relating to federal government agencies are invited to contact the nearest district office for further information and assistance. In 1819, the committee was renamed the Committee on Commerce in recognition that the committee’s jurisdiction had expanded beyond its original scope. The name changed again in 1891, becoming the Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce. The committee assumed its present name in 1981 to emphasize its lead role in the nation’s energy policy. The costs and compliance issues of this law will be felt by businesses of all sizes, but especially small, Main Street businesses.

Yesterday, thanks to the bipartisan efforts of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, as well as many other Members of the House, H.R. 7521, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, was signed into law. Until a new Representative is elected, the vacant congressional office cannot take or advocate positions of public policy. Constituents may choose to express opinions on legislation or issues to your elected Senators or wait until a new Representative is elected and takes office. The staff of the vacant office can assist constituents with general information concerning the status of legislation, but cannot provide analysis of issues or render opinions. By federal law and the Rules of the House of Representatives, the employees of the former Representative continue to staff the offices of the congressional district under the supervision of the Clerk of the House of Representatives.

7176, the Unlocking Our Domestic LNG Potential Act, to reverse President Biden’s ban on American LNG exports and secure American energy and environmental leadership. The development and revolution of American natural gas has helped reduce U.S. emissions in the energy sector by 25% from 2008 to 2018. The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal called President Biden’s decision "a win for political symbolism, not the climate” and “Biden’s Worst Energy Decision.” We agree. Unleashing energy production and exporting U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) to our allies is KEY to lowering costs, strengthening democracy and our geopolitical power, AND lowering emissions worldwide.

Oil interests and business groups continue to oppose the plan, arguing that it won’t solve pricing problems and will make matters worse. They claim it will have unintended consequences, including the potential to reduce gasoline supply and drive up costs on consumers and businesses. It became clear during legislative hearings that state officials needed more information from the industry to understand the problem before setting a cap and penalty. Limiting profits and placing additional requirements on refiners could drive companies out of the state, reducing supply and increasing fuel costs, the oil group said.

house committee on energy and commerce

“With many public companies already disclosing material climate risks, businesses are well ahead of government regulators. California’s laws usurp the role of federal regulators, opening the door for other states to take an opposite approach to disclosure, leaving businesses and their investors caught in the middle of a political scrap between states. The resulting fragmentation will undermine the competitiveness of American capital markets, ushering in an era of duplicative and conflicting state-imposed requirements. The bill also establishes the Independent Consumer Fuels Advisory Committee, comprising industry experts appointed by the governor and legislative leaders, to advise the energy commission and the new oversight division.

Other Sources in California

Not only would these misguided regulations limit consumer choice; they would also increase our reliance on China. The United States does not yet have the domestic critical mineral supply chain necessary to support the proposed transition. As China currently controls 90% of the EV supply chain in aggregate, any push to make EVs the dominant type of vehicle on the market would essentially hand China the keys to America’s auto future. [...] The United States would also be relying on minerals from China, which has an atrocious track record when it comes to environmental and labor standards. As much as we would like to decrease our nation’s emissions, greenhouse gases, and criteria pollutants are a global issue and do not stop at international borders. Georgia is also home to the well-known Vogtle nuclear power plant, the first newly constructed nuclear reactor to be built in the United States in over three decades.

The House Committee on Energy and Commerce has developed what is arguably the broadest (non-tax-oriented) jurisdiction of any congressional committee. Today, the committee has responsibility for matters including telecommunications, consumer protection, food and drug safety, public health and research, environmental quality, energy policy, and interstate and foreign commerce among others. — House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials Subcommittee Chair Buddy Carter (R-GA) released a statement following the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) announcement of several new rules impacting the power sector that will have devastating consequences for U.S. energy reliability. “The EPA’s rush to dismantle our nation’s baseload electricity generation will harm people’s lives and well-being.

Once all of Vogtle’s four units are online, it will be the largest nuclear reactor in the country. And despite facing headwinds, the project marked the beginning of the return of American nuclear energy leadership a crucial aspect of our ability to meet climate and clean energy goals while providing reliable, affordable energy to Americans. The staff of the vacant office will continue to assist constituents who have cases pending with the office.

Energy and Commerce Republicans are leading on all-of-the-above energy solutions to reverse the negative consequences of President Biden’s radical rush-to-green energy agenda, which undermines our economy and slows progress to reduce emissions. — House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) today announced a Full Committee hearing on AI on December 13, 2023. The hearing will include witnesses from the Department of Energy, Department of Health and Human Services, and Department of Commerce.

The breadth of Change Healthcare’s infrastructure all but ensures that the scope of the current disruption, and any disruption in Change Healthcare services, will be extensive. “The health care system is rapidly consolidating at virtually every level, creating fewer redundancies and more vulnerability to the entire system if an entity with significant market share at any level of the system is compromised,” the Committee leaders wrote. The Committee leaders requested answers to a series of detailed questions by April 29, 2024. Instead of rushing into a ‘green’ energy transition, we should follow a pragmatic approach to an ‘energy expansion’ movement.

Subcommittees

house committee on energy and commerce

Prior to this, legislation was drafted in the Committee of the Whole or in special ad hoc committees, appointed for specific limited purposes. However the growing demands of the new nation required that Congress establish a permanent committee to manage its constitutional authority under the Commerce Clause to "regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States." To manage the wide variety of issues it encounters, the committee relies on the front-line work of six subcommittees, one more than during the 111th Congress. During the 111th Congress, Chairman Henry Waxman combined the traditionally separate energy and environment subcommittees into a single subcommittee.[4] New Chairman Fred Upton restored them as separate subcommittees at the start of the 112th Congress, and they have been retained to this day. Upon introduction of the bill, the Energy and Commerce Committee officially noticed a bipartisan Committee hearing, as well as a markup. The days of our foreign adversaries using applications to target, surveil, and manipulate the American people are numbered.

The industry had urged the state to take more time to understand the bill’s potential effects on supply. Several were careful to point out that the legislation prohibits regulators from imposing any limit on profits that could drive up gas prices, underscoring concerns about potential unintended consequences of capping the industry’s earnings. The legislation focuses on transparency, including requiring the industry to provide more information about maintenance and pricing decisions in order to allow state officials to better understand the market and deter companies from gouging consumers. As we have seen especially in recent months an over-reliance on electric vehicles is not what this country needs or even wants. In fact, the scheme to flood the industry with electric vehicles is playing right into the Chinese Communist Party’s hands and plans to establish a greater world dominance. China controls many key aspects of the supply chain, and American providers struggle to keep up with the lower prices from our adversary and rival from the other side of the world.

On July 31, 2023, Chair Rodgers and former Subcommittee on Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials Chair Bill Johnson (R-OH) sent a letter calling on the EPA to extend the comment period for their new CPP2.0 proposal. On November 7, 2023, Chair Rodgers, Subcommittee on Energy, Climate, and Grid Security Chair Jeff Duncan (R-SC), and former Subcommittee Chair Johnson sent a letter to Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) on how new EPA regulations, including CPP2.0, would be detrimental to the U.S. electric grid. On November 14, 2023, Chair Rodgers, Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations Chair Morgan Griffith (R-VA), and former Subcommittee Chair Johnson sent a letter calling on EPA Administrator Michael Regan to withdraw the overreaching and unworkable CPP2.0 proposal. Change Healthcare, which was acquired by UnitedHealth Group’s Optum subsidiary in 2022, is one of the nation’s largest providers of health care payment management systems. Opponents of LNG exports often cite environmental concerns, but the reality is that American natural gas is among the cleanest and most efficient energy sources available. Technological advancements have enabled significant reductions in emissions intensity, with producers leading the way in implementing innovative solutions to minimize environmental impact. We must continue to incentivize emissions reductions through technologies like LNG, not pit one energy source against another. It’s strengthened our energy grid and lowered energy costs for families and businesses—all while reducing carbon emissions.

Homeless encampments are on the ballot in Arizona. Could California, other states follow?

Businesses and government need to work together to address the problem and that requires policies that are practical, flexible, predictable, and durable. The new corporate disclosure laws require businesses to report on emissions across their supply chain, including indirect emissions, no matter where they occur despite the fact that such emissions can be nearly impossible for a company to accurately calculate. The laws also require companies to subjectively report their worldwide climate-related financial risks and proposed mitigation strategies. The laws apply to companies across the U.S. and worldwide on the basis of even minimal operations in the state of California, thus attempting to impose essentially a national standard. Environmental groups and consumer advocates, such as Consumer Watchdog and the Center for Biological Diversity, have continued to support the policy despite the changes. Many argue that the legislation goes further to hold the industry accountable for pricing than existing law, even without a mandatory cap on profits.

Energy, Climate, & Grid Security

North Dakotans are a major contributor to increased U.S. energy production and we help the United States lead in emissions reduction across the world. Despite the narrative coming from the environmentalist left, the United States has proven that the best way to reduce emissions is to empower innovation and technological advancements, not double down on onerous regulations that do nothing to keep the air and water clean. Nuclear energy is key for reducing emissions and providing reliable, affordable, clean energy to Americans.

Before setting a cap and penalty, the commission must find that benefits of doing so outweigh potential costs to consumers. California lawmakers held a hearing to consider a penalty on oil companies after the industry posted record profits at a time when drivers paid the highest gas prices in the nation. After months of deliberation, the final bill does not cap oil refinery profits or penalize the industry as Newsom had intended when he accused companies of intentionally driving up gas prices to boost revenue. Instead, the bill, SBX1-2, gives the California Energy Commission the power to set a cap and impose penalties through a regulatory process if it decides that oil companies are making excessive profits and that a penalty will not result in higher prices for consumers.

District Court for the Central District of California over its new corporate climate disclosure laws, which were signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom on Oct. 7, 2023. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and several business groups filed a lawsuit against the state of California over its corporate climate disclosure laws. At Gov. Gavin Newsom’s urging, California lawmakers are expected to begin a special session Monday to consider a penalty on oil profits in response to high gas prices. “I know that legislators do not want the answer ‘We need more investigation,’ but the fact is shooting first and then finding out if it’s the right solution is going to likely be just as detrimental as helpful,” Severin Borenstein, director of the Energy Institute at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business, told lawmakers at the time.

The Committee’s classified hearing with members of the intelligence community, including the Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence made clear the dangers posed by applications that are controlled by foreign adversaries and the need to take action. In 1819, the committee's name was changed to the Committee on Commerce, reflecting the creation of a separate Manufacturers Committee and also the increasing scope of and complexity of American commercial activity, which was expanding the committee's jurisdiction from navigational aids and the nascent general health service to foreign trade and tariffs. Thomas J. Bliley, who chaired the committee from 1995 to 2000, chose to use this traditional name, which underscores the committee's role for Congress on this front.

The committee assumed its present name in 1981 to emphasize its lead role in the nation's energy policy. From this time forward, as the nation grew and Congress dealt with new public policy concerns and created new committees, the Energy and Commerce Committee has maintained its central position as Congress's monitor of commercial progress—a focus reflected in its changing jurisdiction, both in name and practice. Chair Rodgers called TikTok CEO Shou Chew to appear before the committee to testify on TikTok’s consumer privacy and data security practices, the platforms’ impact on kids, and its relationship with the Chinese Communist Party. “We are proud of the leadership and innovation shown by America’s businesses in tackling climate change.

Looking ahead, the House Energy and Commerce Committee has a crucial role to play in shaping America’s energy future. By fostering collaboration between industry stakeholders, policymakers, and environmental advocates, the committee can develop visionary solutions that balance the essentials of economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, and energy security. We need to focus on bolstering the capacity and resiliency of our energy grid to accommodate a diverse array of energy sources, including renewables, natural gas, and nuclear power. In 2023 alone, the United States cut emissions by 3%, outpacing many other nations including China. Our efforts in oil and gas production have also set global standards for cleanliness, demonstrating our commitment to responsible environmental stewardship while ensuring energy security. Additionally, the lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions of U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) are approximately 40% lower than the gas supplied by Russia, the second largest exporter of LNG.

We'll be kicking off at the new location on Tuesday, March 12 just in time for our expanding Spring Break Hours. First, we visited with a friend from Germany, yet another convert into our crazy-for-cats lifestyle. Second, it was my birthday, which always helps infuse every activity with a festive air.

Houston became a virtual ghost town and El Gato's business suffered greatly. After checking in, we were led into the cat lounge by Angela, a friendly cat staffer who introduced me to Sweetie, who is not just sweet, but sassy and rocks a very unique look. Visit the cafe’s website or Facebook page to learn more.

Renee shared their stories with me as we moved around the room, stopping for each kitty. Then, I met Renee, the owner who gave me the scoop on El Gato. They opened in April, 2017 and had just started to gain loyal customers and steady traffic when Hurricane Harvey hit in August.

We will establish a volunteer-run Trap-Neuter-Release program to serve our community of neighbors both human and feline. This program will have the capacity to lend traps, teach TNR skills, and provide vouchers for vet visits. Collectively, we adopt approximately 100 cats per year and foster cats at a time.

We over a 7 day trial adoption period called a sleepover. Once approved, you receive a sleepover to ensure the cat is a good fit for you, your family and your other furrbabies. What's the weather like in Los Gatos?

El Gato Coffeehouse is located in the historic Houston Heights neighborhood. Later, I learned the food truck is less about the hip food movement and more to address the city regulations that require food and drink be completely separate from the kitties. Visits with the Cats in our Cat Cottage will remain at our $18/ person pricing. An East LA hidden gem, the Ave 26 Night Market is focused on food, family, and fun. This intimate and cozy market offers a unique blend of traditional Mexican street food, handmade crafts, and vibrant live performances. Renee is not just a kind-hearted cat lover, but a smart business owner, dedicated not only to rescuing kitties, but providing patrons a quality experience.

Large populations of free-roaming cats can be problematic for a number of reasons including cat health, human public health, and ecological/environmental protection. Risa Rose, an avid yogi and UCLA graduate, loves to immerse herself in all things spiritual. If she isn't spending time in nature with her boyfriend and their dog, she's providing tarot & horary astrology sessions. Between conversation and fawning over felines, the hour went by very quickly. El Gato's cats (between 14 and 19 in residence) are a delightful combination of shy, social and playful. In addition to Sweetie, some of my favorites included Inky, a large black floofer, Jean Baptise, a tuxedo and Addison the calico.

Track your travel spending and split costs with friends

I was excited to hear she is experimenting with lots of activities, trying a variety of events like cat yoga, movie night and book club to keep customers returning for fun beyond cats alone. The opportunity to expand presented itself only 2.5 weeks ago. By the end of May, we'll have created a charming and mystical environment for our cats and guests, including the installation of a 7ft tree. The main benefit of adopting from us is having the ability to meet several cats and kittens in a peaceful, living-room-like setting. As such, we only process applications for our customers that have visited with us and have selected a cat or kitten. You can apply to adopt in advance of your visit if you have a scheduled session with us.

Adoption Process

We understand that the term "cat cafe" can seem deceiving. Unfortunately, the answer is no, we are not a "BYOC(at)" establishment. We are a space that cares for adoptable cats and we cannot allow cats from home to be brought into our space.

Its plug-and-play simplicity and large print buttons simplify calling. With its classic landline style plus thoughtful upgrades for accessibility, the iSoHo Big Button Phone enables seniors to easily make calls and stay connected. The improved audio and visual features maximize comfort without complicating usage. Amplified Volume – With adjustable ringer volume up to a loud 80dB, this phone helps overcome hearing difficulties. I could clearly hear incoming calls from anywhere in my home during testing.

How traceable is a burner phone?

It’s as simple as can be, but it has a long range, totally passable voice quality, and an exceptionally low price—roughly the same as that of an iPhone charging cable. Even though you’re giving up plenty of features compared with choosing our top pick, you’re paying next to nothing for the peace of mind a home phone can bring. The phone’s hardware and software are relatively refined compared with those of other cordless phones, although next to a touchscreen smartphone, they feel dated and clunky.

As for robocall blocking, the IS is equipped with both one-touch blocking and (like the AT&T DL72210) smart call blocking and Bluetooth cell phone connection features. The only other features the CS6114 offers are a 30-number phone book, caller ID, and a button on the base station to locate the handset if you’ve misplaced it. Otherwise, it lacks any sort of call blocking, speakerphone, or digital answering system, and it has no ability to connect to your cell phone. The hardware itself is light and plasticky, and the screen is small. But we like that the entirety of each number key glows, rather than just the perimeter.

This one comes with a digital answering machine, and you can plug headphones into the handset. It comes with a digital answering machine, caller ID, and call blocker, plus Bluetooth allows you to connect up to two cell phones for having calls and listening to text messages. AT&T’s CL82219 is similar to the AT&T DL72210, with most of the same features, an almost-identical handset, and a comparable price. The big difference is that the CL82219 doesn’t have a Bluetooth connection, so you can’t pair it with your cell phone. In testing, we were able to take the CL82219 about a house and a half farther before the incoming audio broke up, but that extra range isn’t enough of a bonus to be worth giving up cell phone pairing. Retired audiologist Lisa Devlin performed similar tests with the amplified phones, allowing us to evaluate range and outgoing audio quality.

Adding to the murkiness, the issue has become more politicized in recent years as some voters and elected officials in Los Angeles, San Francisco and other city centers clamor for a response to what they see as a worsening problem. And retailers have long played a game of cat and mouse with thieves, searching for ways to thwart them while still giving paying customers easy access to merchandise. BT’s phones are particularly good in this regard, enabling you to effectively banish withheld, international, mobile and payphone calls – or even blank out whole area codes if you wish. It’s just what you need to restore peace and tranquility to your home. Once part of tech giant Siemens, Gigaset is a German phone maker with a long history of making innovative, feature-rich handsets. As long as you have Caller ID from your phone company, you can use the Panasonic KX-PRS120 to block unwanted calls, with the ability to block entire groups of numbers, based on the first two to eight digits.

After hands-on testing, I found this phone ideal for users needing a straightforward accessible interface. The base locator button makes the handset beep so you can easily find it. Large Lighted Keypad – The corded base features oversized backlit buttons with bold printed numbers that are easier to see and dial, making dialing effortless. I highly recommend the Panasonic KX-TGM420W for elderly individuals with mild to moderate hearing difficulties who want a full-featured cordless home phone. With its purposefully basic interface yet helpful enhancements for seniors, I found the Panasonic KX-TGD610B strikes the right balance for those seeking an easy home cordless phone.

If you’re looking for a barebones cordless phone that can make calls from a landline or cable-company VoIP line—and that’s it—go with the VTech CS6114. For the price of a typical smartphone case, you get a no-frills phone with reasonable range and voice clarity but no call blocking, no speakerphone, and no answering system. The CS6114 is as basic as cordless phones get, but it could be the perfect choice if you just want to have a home phone available in case of emergencies. Amplified Sound – With up to 50dB audio boost on the cordless handset and an extra loud 90dB ringer on base, this phone accommodates mild to moderate hearing loss. I could clearly hear conversations and incoming calls during testing.

Overall, SMPL simplifies calling with exactly the right features for many elderly users. After using and testing multiple phone and communication products over the years, here are my top suggested home phones for older adults. I have personally tested, used, and demonstrated each of these phones.
